In the wake of the pandemic, we have identified a gap in the provision of healthy and nutritious food for the elderly who have to self-isolate in the Ogwen Valley. In terms of the food provision, isolation has been a challenge for the elderly as a result of the pandemic. During 2020, we have run a Community Friend scheme which delivers food produced by Coed y Brenin Café (another local social enterprise) to local homes. During deliveries, the Community Friend has a conversation with the individual giving them the opportunity to socialise but it is also an opportunity to identify any challenges faced by the individual. E.g. We have already worked with the Social Services Department and others to identify and improve the situation of one elderly couple suffering poverty and isolation as a result of the pandemic. The scheme is an opportunity to use a food delivery service to offer integrated care jointly and partnered. The success of this pilot project to date demonstrates the need among the area's vulnerable residents for food and social opportunities. The new project is also going to tackle these problems. We also want to plan beyond the pandemic when we can transport individuals to well-being and social opportunities in their community.
